What is it like?

Melaleuca is a delightful cottage, set in a mountain garden, overlooking the sandstone bluffs of Shipley plateau, bushland reserve and the Kanimbla valley. It sleeps six, with a queen size bedroom, a double bedroom and a third bedroom with double bunks and a cot.

What can you do there?

You can just relax in the peace and fresh air of the fabulous Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. Melaleuca is a comfortable house, with a recently renovated bathroom and kitchen. It is equipped with refrigerator, electric stove, dishwasher, television, VCR, and lots of holiday reading. Melaleuca has an open fireplace, a gas heater, and electric blankets on every bed, so you can fully appreciate the contrast when you step outside into the brisk chill of a mountain winter. In summer you can bask on the roomy sun deck. For infants there is a cot and a high chair.

There's plenty of good food available at Blackheath, ten minutes walk away, including a patisserie and many cafes and fine restaurants.

The Blue Mountains was World Heritage listed in 2000. Among the banksias, eucalypts and pines around the cottage you can see spectacular native birds including yellow tailed black cockatoos, sulphur crested cockatoos, gang gang cockatoos, white-eared honeyeaters, bower birds and crimson rosellas.

Some of the most beautiful walks in the Blue Mountains start near Blackheath. Melaleuca overlooks the start of the Centennial Glen and Porter's Pass walks, which take you into a secluded valley by waterfalls, through rainforest and eucalyptus forest, down a gorge full of fresh water pools and around the sandstone cliffs that tower over the Kanimbla valley.

Not far away on the other side of Blackheath are the stunning views of Govett's Leap and Evan's Lookout, and many breathtaking walks around cliff tops and down into mountain valleys.

The Blackheath Golf Course provides a good game in gorgeous surroundings. Katoomba and Leura Golf Courses are ten kilometres away. Blackheath Park has many attractions for children.

Adventure sports include rock climbing, abseiling, canyoning, horse riding and paragliding nearby.

How do you get there?

Blackheath is one and a half hours from Sydney by road.

Melaleuca is a pleasant ten to fifteen minute walk from Blackheath station, under two and a half hours from Sydney by train.

What should you bring?

Please bring your own sheets, pillow cases, towels and tea towels. For international visitors who have difficulty supplying bed linen we can make special arrangements at a small extra cost. Melaleuca has a refrigerator and fully equipped kitchen, but you'll need to bring your own food.

Weather in the Blue Mountains is very changeable at all times of year, so bring warm clothing even in summer. Bring a torch (flashlight) if you're arriving at night.
